The Slim Baker Foundation for Outdoor Education, Inc. is thrilled to announce an evening of compelling storytelling and reflection with acclaimed author Ty Gagne. Join us at the Slim Baker Lodge on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 6:00 PM for a fireside chat discussing Gagne’s latest book, The Lions of Winter.

In The Lions of Winter, Ty Gagne recounts the gripping true story of two young climbers who, in January 1982, found themselves lost in the unforgiving winter conditions of Mt. Washington. Their harrowing ordeal and the remarkable four-day rescue effort that followed—carried out by an intrepid group of volunteers—mark a pivotal moment in New Hampshire’s White Mountain history. Gagne’s meticulous storytelling and deep respect for the wilderness have made him a leading voice in recounting outdoor adventures and cautionary tales. He is also the best-selling author of The Last Traverse.

This fireside chat provides a rare opportunity to hear directly from Gagne as he delves into the human spirit’s resilience, the camaraderie of the search and rescue community, and the lessons drawn from these extraordinary events. Guests will also have a chance to ask questions and connect with the author in an intimate setting.
