Join us for a Fireside Chat with Erik Thatcher, climber and teacher at the Holderness School as he shares how he fell in love with sandstone—its unique climbing style, stunning formations, and fascinating geology. Erik will take you on a journey through three iconic sandstone climbing areas across the country: Indian Creek, UT; the Red River Gorge, KY; and Red Rocks, NV. Along the way, you’ll learn about the remarkable geologic processes that shaped these world-class cliffs.
Erik started climbing in 2007 on the cliffs around New Hampshire while living in the Newfound region. His obsession with the sport has led to him traveling around the country to climb, and dedicating his career to guiding and instructing rock climbing. He has run the climbing program at The Holderness School, where he learned to climb, since 2012. After the talk, Erik will have climbing equipment on hand for any curious youth to explore afterward.
